FZ vs Belang

I was really surprised!

I was cruising happily some 2 week ago, on the highway on my way to my office when a Belang R and FZ exploded passed me. I decided to follow them just to see how they were doing on the highway.

I thought the Belang was a fast bike. But I was wrong. The FZ was always in front. Never even once, the Belang R able to took over the FZ (for about 10km when the Belang R gave up the chase).

To make it worst, the Belang R was wobbling all over. Fighting with the wind and stuck behind cars and buses. Suspension did not seem to be that suitable for high speed riding while the FZ was blasting the road elegantly.

Well, I am not saying that the Belang is a bad bike, but if I have to choose, I'll choose the FZ150i.

Fast Wave 110 RS

I was cruising along the highway this morning when the new Wave 110 RS suddenly took me over. Curious, I followed the bike.

I was at 120km/h but the RS110 seems to be getting further and further. I was at 135km/h once when I tried to get close to it. At a corrected speed, I think the RS110 was speeding easily at around 110km/h. Pretty good for a cute little kapcai.

From a distance, it looked good. Stable and solid. Suspension seem to be taking the highway very well. I don't know if Honda had made improvement on the chassis but if they did, it will be a great improvement on the overall package.

But the price is on the high side. But I do wish the 125 version will roll out of the factory soon!

Not Many On The Road

It's been quite some time after launching of a few new model kapcai and scooter. But not many seen on the road, I mean these new kapcai.

GT128 - well I've seen a few but not that many.
CT110 - more of CT110 on the road conpared to others. This may due to a very reasonable price (<4K)
Wave 125 X Optimo - I've seen none on the road. May be too expensive
Shogun 125 SP / RR - once in a while. Surely Suzuki has not been very successful.
Symphony 250i - well, what would you expect from and 18k price. I've seen it only once on the highway.

The economy has not improve. People still having a hard time trying to balance their account every month. A few lucky one, still manage to posses their dream machine, but most of us will have to think many many time before deciding to get a new ride.

Honda Wave RS 110

It's in the showroom now. Honda is fighting back. Wave RS 110

I went for a spin on the bike. I am satisfied. A bit expensive but comes with a very good built quality.

A Short Test Ride - GT128

I like the exhaust sound, very distinctive. The long stroke made the sound unique.

It was a very short test ride. Around 10km around Precinct 14 and 15 of Putrajaya. After 1st gear engaged, I gave it some throttle. Surprisingly, it was rather slow in acceleration. I prefer the Wave 125 launching. More energetic.

After reaching 100km/h, it feels better. But the small original tires were not very suitable for the rather 'big' kapcai. When you are in a corner, it feels like swaying to much. I think, if we fit a bigger rear tires, it could improve.

The engine was rather noisy. But I can live with it. 

What impressed me was the design. Personally I say it is perfect. I like it very much.

The Longest Stroke

I have been comparing cubic capacity for kapcai in Malaysia. This is my findings:

1) The biggest kapcai is Belang R = 147.33cc but it has such a short stroke (48.8mm)

2) The longest stroke is Honda Class 1. Eventhough the capacity is only 110cc, the stroke is 61mm

3) The easiest to upgrade is Lagenda 110. After an upgrade it could have a capacity of 152cc (using 60mm diameter block)

4) If you have more money to spend, upgrade the 135LC. With a 60mm block, you can easily have a 165cc kapcai which you can push to the limit. The liquid cooled system will enable maximum setup for maximum performance.

Ehmmm... very interesting.

Most Popular Upgrade

I was at a spare part shop last week. I was looking for a proper sprocket for my TZM. Manage to chat with the mechanic.

I asked him what is the most popular model for upgrading and performance enhancement. Surprisingly he said it was the Lagenda model from Yamaha.

According to him, the was quite a number of after market parts from various supplier for this bike. Most popular was the overbore block. He said biggest he had put on the bike was a 60mm diameter.

After a careful calculation, I found that with a 60mm block, the engine capacity becomes 152cc. With a proper carburetor, a good CDI and a proper setting, this baby can reach 160km/h quite easily.

Phewww.... 160km/h on a 90kg kapcai...... fly man fly..........

Modenas GT128 Speedometer Error

I manage to ride side by side with a friend and manage to compare my Elegan speedometer with his Modenas GT 128.

You will be surprised with what I found out:

1) When my Elegan was at 80km/h, the GT128 was at 100km/h

2) When I raise my speed to 100km/h, the GT128 was at 120km/h

No wonder, some said that at top speed the GT128 was at 150km/h and the Shogun 125RR can go side by side.

I don't quite understand, what is the used of having such a misleading reading on the GT128. My be just as a marketing gimmick. At first glance, the bike seem to be very powerfull, very fast. But when properly check and compared.....................

Suzuki 150cc

I heard Suzuki is planning a comeback. After Shogun 125 RR/SP, what else?

Well, we have all know, there are many 150cc 'kapcai' from Suzuki in our neighbouring countries. So, will Suzuki bring it here, for our own pleasure and enjoyment?

Well, I heard, it is already in the production line. Guys, 150cc 'kapcai'. Well, you have heard about FX 125 converted to 150cc engine haven't you? I heard it easily reach 150-160km/h.

Now, we are going to have it on an original version. So, keep your eyes and ears wide open guys. This is good news and it does not come often.

I will be rushing to the dealers as soon as it is confirmed.......... ha... ha.. ha.....

Kingstone Tire

I was looking for tire last week. I had a really tight budget. So I was looking for something cheap.

I went to a spare part shop suggested by a friend. I installed this tire named Kingstone. It was a 130/70-12 tire.

I has a very rounded profile and a pretty soft compound. Made in Malaysia clearly written on the side wall.

After a few days on the scooter with a Kingstone tire, I realized it is a pretty good tire for RM 76 complete with installation.

On dry tarmac, I had no problem zooming up to 120km/h. A little bit of cornering and braking feels pretty confident. Wet riding, well, I dare not push it to hard but so far it has not done any bad things.

So, for the price I paid, I think it is pretty reasonable. For you out there, whom are looking for reasonably priced tires, during this hard time, may be you could try this made in Malaysia Kingstone tires.

Yamaha Nouvo LC

Is has been quite a while since it's launching. But surprisingly, not many on the road. Why?

I say it is expensive. Almost 7k. To expensive compare to other models even compare to older Nouvo S or Ego. Worst if you compare them to Modenas Elite and Passion or Suzuki Step.

Being a scooter, the target audience are commuters. Commuting from office to home. But having a liquid cooled engine, it should also impressed long distance rider. But can it perform on long journey?

I think this is where Nouvo LC is  very week. Fuel tanks is too small and top speed is just insufficient for long distance riding. Just imagine a 3.8 liters fuel tank which require fill up at every 120km and a top speed just around 110km/h. Surely you can't push it 100% all the time.

So, we are talking about a crusing speed of about 80-90km per hour on a long jurney and a lot of worrying about drying the tank in the middle of no where on the highway.

BKZ Motorcyckes

Feel like wondering around today, so I went to one of the BKZ outlet. I was greeted by one of their staff.

There are two new models in their show room. The BKZ TT160 and a RR110.

TT160 is a scrambler. This model is based on the Hyosung off road bike. Selling at around RM7-8000. I was told that it was the on and only scrambler in the Malaysian market now.


The RR110 is a moped aka kapcai. 110cc base on Honda Class 1. Only that it is selling at a much lower price. OTR RM3500 cash. Very cheap 110cc moped. Could it be as durable as the Honda counterpart. May be an owner of this mechine can give a comment.

Wave 125X and Kriss 120

It has been very long since I last update this blog. Now, more small bikes in the market. Latest by Honda is Wave 125X. It is beautiful. You should have a look at it.

The Kriss 120 is another hot item. Many said it has a very powerfull acceleration. Looks like the old Kriss but with new paint design and stickers.

Elegan of Modenas also come out with new paint works. But most interesting is the new speedo meter and RPM meter.

Lexur vs Yamaha

Lexur Evosport is a 125cc, air-cooled moped. But the square engine with bore and stroke of 54mm is said to be rev happy and can match the power output of a popular 135cc top selling liquid-cooled motorbikes.

135cc, popular, liquid-cooled. I am sure you all know which one. So, if you have a chance to test one of this Lexur, make sure let me know of your findings.

New Brand Motorbike (Lexur)

I was at a motorbike shop a few days ago. There was a new brand in the market. Lexur is the name. Their first model was a 125cc moped/kapcai. First impression, looks like Yamaha 135LC.

According to the shop owner, this was a model from Momos but it was not as advance as other Momos motorbikes. It is using a normal moped engine, single piston, 2 valve, air cooled.

Workmanship is not as good as Momos, but to the price is quit high. I wonder if Malaysian could accept this model. Price on the road was around RM4,600.00.

I was told that this motorbikes was from Daelim of Korea. If it's really from this company, it may worth checking out.
